Abstract:
The fall
webworm, Hyphantria cunea (Drury), is
a serious pest of a number of ornamental trees as well as of several
agricultural crops. In this study, six bacteria were isolated and cultured from
H. cunea. We determined morphological
and physiological characteristics. Bacterial isolates were identified by 16S
rRNA gene sequence analysis as Lysinibacillus
sphaericus (Abk1), Bacillus
amyloliquefaciens (Abk2), Staphylococcus
sciuri (Abk4), Kocuria palustris
(Abk6), Arthrobacter arilaitensis
(Abk7), Microbacterium oxydans
(Abk8). Future studies will be tested insecticidal effects of these bacterial
isolates against H. cunea larvae.
